Most lost marks in Accounts aren't about not knowing — they're avoidable slips. Here are ten Meera sees most often, and how to fix each one.
Answers without working notes lose step marks even when the final figure is right. Fix: always show the workings, clearly labelled.
Incorrect ledger, account or balance-sheet formats cost presentation marks. Fix: practise standard formats until they're automatic.
Reversing the side under exam pressure. Fix: reason from the rule each time — don't rely on memory of a similar sum.
Missing outstanding, prepaid, depreciation or interest adjustments. Fix: underline every adjustment before you start writing.
Small arithmetic errors that break every figure after them. Fix: re-total before carrying a balance forward.
Spending too long on one sum and rushing the rest. Fix: set a per-question time budget and stick to it.
Missing a line that changes the whole answer. Fix: read twice and underline key figures and dates.
No attempt means zero. Fix: attempt every part — partial, correctly-shown work still earns marks.
Dropping ₹ symbols, dates or journal narrations. Fix: treat these as part of the answer, not optional extras.
Not checking the paper when time is left. Fix: reserve the last 10 minutes to verify totals and formats.
